How Social Stigmas are Plaguing the Mindsets of Young People and Creating Gender Biases

Image
Sometime ago, I was at home, watching TED Talks India: Nayi Baat , a show that very few people are aware about. Because for a weird reason, we tend to incline more towards those shitty daily soap operas and reality shows like Bigg Boss than towards insightful & original content. Let's shelve this discussion for some other time. Anyway, so as I was watching some really awesome speakers come up on stage and share mindful thoughts about society & the world, there was one talk that distinctively stood out from the rest.  Madhumita Pandey, who is PhD in the criminology department, wanted to do a thesis on some case. After hearing about the notoriously infamous 2012 Delhi Gangrape Case, that forced a lot of outrage among the Indian people and the media alike, she came up with some really introspective questions. Why do men rape women? What prompts these men? What are the circumstances which produce men like this? Amidst all  this chaos and blame games, she wanted

Under Saturn you melt, under Saturn you rise again...

Today I saw Saturn in the night sky, even though my eyes were hunting for the Moon. Most people panicked. I didn't... Do not panic. It's not an exaggeration. The Saturn was not a replacement to the Moon, just a benevolent companion. It resided right beside the Moon, gleaming and glistening, filling the night sky with vast expanse. It overshadowed half the night sky with its scintillating lustre, blinding the stars, and the Moon. However, the fact that people panicked is not an understatement. Half of the population believed that doomsday was coming; that end of the Earth was near. And the half others struggled to become saved in the artificial pursuits of life; fake smiles and eyes bleeding with tears. Me? I was not panicked. Probably the only person on Earth who was not. Knowing each day after waking up that this day could be your last, believing that you'll die today or another day, things like these don't seem to scare you much. For me, the slowly app

I Feel Like Destroying Something Beautiful Today (Part - 2)

Your Hopes. When I was younger, I had a hard time pretending not to care. (Now I really don’t care, until I do.) There was a counselling session I attended during my IIT-JEE coaching classes, two years ago. I didn't really care much at that time. For the other students, it was a matter of do or die. For me, truth be told, it was a matter of do or do something else. Anyway, the session was progressing well when the counsellor, a narcissistic old man, asked me “Where do you see yourself six years from now?” I reflected on the advice of the seniors and told the truth. I don’t see myself at all. That would be scary. The old man could not let go of the question. He asked again, “You must have made some plans – what happens six years from this moment?” Even I couldn't make any sense at that time, about what I said. It was a subconscious response. But looking back, I wonder what if I asked him back, “Sir, where do you see yourself 50 years from now?” Alright, your turn now. W

Some Kids Just Wanna Burn The World (Part - 1)

Image
There are two kinds of real people in this world- Those who burn the world, and those who enjoy the show with popcorn. Because you see? There’s no roadmap. No one wants your proof. If you were a smart kid, you would probably have killed yourself long ago. But you’re clearly not. Somebody’s gotta help you ‘there’. Not me. But the one who is destined to do the job. What are we in this real world? Who we think we are depends on who people we know think who we are. But to explore oneself as one true being is an exercise in vanity. Deep down we know we are nothing. Philosophically speaking, we are just some poor little things that run between the maternity ward and the crematorium. And that’s it darling. That’s what life is. Actually, you know what? You’re that woooshhh sound that nobody heard in the crowd. Let me at least attempt to make you understand the philosophy of life to you in Layman’s terms; because you are a true layman. You deal in hopes and dreams.

AI vs Jobs: Who's to blame?

Image
The robots are knocking at our doors, calling out for employment in industries. Thanks to Artificial Intelligence, we're braced for the world's biggest transformation, since the industrial revolution. With the recent breakthroughs in technology, many jobs could cease to exist. As per one estimate, 40% of the world's jobs would be replaced by automated robots capable of doing their own tasks. The simplest jobs would be the first to go. Those who depend on earning their livelihood could be the worst impacted. The conspiracy theorists, the technologists, the scientists, the engineers, even the journalists seem to carry their own subjective views... The Fuss about Machine Learning... Let's first talk about this Machine Learning thingy. Computers are exceptionally great at following rules, written into programs. If you have a low credit card score, the interest rate on your card should be at a certain level, that's a rule a computer follows. Keep adding r

In Musk We Must Trust

Tesla has finally unveiled its standard range of Model 3 sedan for $35,000- jumping to the next step of its master plan to boost its revenues. Though the company is incredibly excited about its latest achievement, the investors have their own reasons to be concerned. They fear that launching its next range of affordable cars may make the company lose its exclusivity. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has recently announced in a conference on Feb 27th that Tesla's latest affordable Standard Model 3 will have 220 miles of range, a top speed of 130 mph and it will accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.6 seconds. Tesla is also offering higher performance, long-range version of Tesla, Standard Range Plus , for which you will have to pay $2000 more. "For 6% more money, you get 9% more range, more power, and an upgraded interior", said Tesla in a blog post. Musk also said that Tesla will be shutting down more of its stores in the coming months and laying off most of the worke
